Angel Reese has been nothing short of impressive in her rookie campaign. She has been a huge part of the Chicago Sky's success this season while also breaking a couple of WNBA records along the way. In the game between the Sky and the Minnesota Lynx, Reese secured her 405th rebound to surpass two-time WNBA champion Sylvia Fowles for most rebounds in a single season.
The Sky forward has been dominant at crashing the boards with her excellent timing, positioning and strength. In the process, Reese quickly established herself as a walking double-double machine.
Despite some offensive shortcomings, Reese continues to play her game and make a strong impact on her team. Reese is averaging 13.2 points (38.6% shooting) and 12.9 rebounds per game.
Before she even arrived in the WNBA, several fans and analysts were already excited over her potential. So far this season, she has mostly lived to expectations.
Angel Reese remains focused on contributing to her team's winning ways over rebounding numbers
It's not the numbers or the praises that matter to Angel Reese but being an effective contributor to her team is what's important to her.
On July 5, Reese recorded 27 points (61.5% shooting) and 10 rebounds, which was her 12th consecutive double-double. Following her performance, she highlighted how her rebounding numbers were a product of her willingness to be a reliable rebounder for her team, as per ESPN.
"I don't really think about it," Reese said. "I just go out there and do my job. My job is to rebound, so I'm going to go out there and do my job and rebound. I know that's what my teammates need me to do, and I've committed to that."
Despite not being regarded as a premier scoring forward, Reese knows that one of the strengths of her game is her presence on the boards. It has also been a huge factor to the Sky's success considering the number of times she has given her team extra possessions.
It is also a testament to Angel Reese being someone willing to play any kind of role given to her if it means for the betterment of her squad.
