Sheryl Swoopes has been under fire recently after the four-time WNBA champion was removed from a scheduled broadcast. According to Stephen A. Smith, who spoke with former WNBA standout Nancy Lieberman on his podcast this week, Swoopes was allegedly removed from the broadcasting due to perceived bias against Caitlin Clark.
LeBron James' friend, Cuffs The Legend, who the future Hall of Famer has interacted with several times in the past, has joined the criticism of Swoopes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Cuffs took aim at Swoopes:
"All I've seen Caitlyn Clark do is show up and hoop. ... See, I know why Cheryl Swoopes is mad. I know why you mad, Cheryl. Cause you see Caitlin making the money that you wish you would have made when you was a player. And you kind of bitter, you kind of salty. It's a jealous spirit.
"Moral of the story is this, every OG is not an OG. Some OGs just old and grumpy."
Looking at the recent Sheryl Swoopes-Caitlin Clark controversy
While Stephen A. Smith has continued to praise Clark, highlighting her role in increasing the WNBA's popularity, Swoopes has been accused of bias against Clark.
As previously mentioned, Stephen A. Smith recently alleged that Sheryl Swoopes was removed from a scheduled WNBA broadcasting gig because of potential bias against Caitlin Clark. According to the outspoken sports media personality, Bally Sports was concerned with potential bias from Swoopes.
In response, Nancy Lieberman, who commentated the game alongside Ron Thulin, confirmed the theory, going so far as to explain that her friendship with Swoopes is nearly nonexistent now.
In addition to dismissing Clark's NCAA scoring record, saying that the then-22-year-old was 25 and in her fifth year in the league, Swoopes also notably excluded Clark when discussing players who have contributed to the Fever's surge this season.
After Swoopes' factually incorrect comments about Clark back in February, Liberman spoke to her on the phone. At the time, Lieberman told Swoopes that she is entitled to her own opinion but she needed to get her facts straight.
In response, Sheryl Swoopes allegedly got upset according to Lieberman, which contributed to a fractured relationship. In response to Lieberman's recent comments on the Stephen A. Smith show, Swoopes took to X to respond.
While Sheryl Swoopes has shown screenshots of a February text exchange with Caitlin Clark, in which she apologized for getting her facts wrong on Gil's Arena, it sounds like behind the scenes Bally Sports may be concerned with potential bias on WNBA broadcasts.
