Fans found it hilarious that Caitlin Clark was featured on the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, not because she was there as a WNBA rookie but where her standee was placed and whose banner hung behind it. Indiana Fever beat writer Scott Agnes shared a picture on Sunday that shows Clark's image near Sheryl Swoopes' name.
"Walking around the Basketball HOF and Caitlin Clark is already featured. Just a 22-year-old rookie. Not bad. Also, bonus points for whose banner she is below."
Unsurprisingly, this post drew a lot of attention, with the vast majority laughing at Clark's position in the exhibit. Many fans said this was done on purpose.
"someone did it on purpose 😂," one fan wrote.
Others lauded the person behind this decision and said that it was a notable trolling job.
"An absolute legend did this!! Master level trolling 😂," one fan said.
"Somebody has a wicked sense of humor 😂🤣😂," another fan said.
"🤣🙄🙄🙄THATS AWESOME!!!! Who ever did is my HERO!!! 🤣🤣🤣," another fan wrote.
Sheryl Swoopes' negative comments about Caitlin Clark made a lot of noise around the WNBA world. After saying Clark didn't dominate in her rookie season and refusing to acknowledge her as a major factor in the Fever's season turnaround, she eventually gave Clark her flowers but fans haven't forgotten about her initial disdain for her.
Stephen A. Smith says Sheryl Swoopes 'resented' Caitlin Clark
After Swoopes sat down with Angel Reese to discuss her comments on Caitlin Clark, Stephen A. Smith blasted her and others for "resenting" the Indiana Fever star.
During the Oct. 4 episode of his "The Stephen A. Smith Show," he noted that the WNBA's viewership dropped as soon as Clark was sent home by the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the playoffs and took a shot at Swoopes in the process.
"Caitlin Clark is the golden goose," Smith said. "Not most, not all but some people spend some time resenting her for it. Sheryl Swoopes is one of those people. Wanna give shine, you wanna give love to others, other than her, just say what you truly feel.
"They are very very few people but there are some out there who resent the fact that this young white girl came out there and did her thing ... validating all the attention she was receiving. A rising tide lifts all boats. If folks were more receptive to it, even more moments would have arrived."
Clark won the 2024 ROY award after a terrific season and this is only the start of what looks like a generational run.
