A video of Russell Westbrook discussing his basketball journey has seemingly left an impression on WNBA star Sophie Cunningham. The veteran guard reacted to the footage shared on Tuesday by Instagram account "uninterrupted," in which Westbrook talks about how the media perceives him.

Talking with the media, the Nuggets point guard emphasized that he is unwilling to become whatever people want him to be.

"Everybody wants to know who I am," Westbrook said. "No offense to you guys, but the media has portrayed me to be somebody that I'm not, unfortunately, but that's the world we live in. And I always stay true to myself, stay grounded, stay humble. And God's willing, I've been able to make it this far not by accident. I always stand on who I am, where I'm from."
"To me, everything else will take care of itself. Whatever the journey is, I'm always prepared for that. He [God] didn't put me in this position to please or to appease other people or to be fake or to be politically correct, because that's not me. I'm human, I'm thoughtful, I make mistakes. I'm happy, but I have all human reactions like everybody else. I'm grateful for that journey, man. I really am."

Sophie Cunningham commented underneath the post with a two-word message.

After having stops at the LA Lakers and LA Clippers, Russell Westbrook landed in Denver to share touches with the 2023 NBA champions. Russ averages 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 19 games with the Nuggets.

Why did Sophie Cunningham repost this video?

Over the past year, Sophia Cunningham has fallen out of favor with several WNBA fans. The Phoenix Mercury veteran has been criticized for supporting U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, which has caused a stir among fans. After the Mercury used her to announce their 2025 schedule alongside Natasha Cloud and Kahleah Copper, many fans were unhappy with the decision.

The community called the team out for picking Cunningham, with most citing their past support for Mr. Trump as the reason they disliked her.

She finished her sixth season with the team, averaging 8.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 2.0 apg, becoming a solid contributor in Phoenix. That said, fans aren't happy with her moves off the court.
