Sophie Cunningham has a solid social media presence, and her 308k followers on Instagram and X prove just that. Her posts include fashion photos, as well as promotional materials for the WNBA and Adidas. Occasionally, the Phoenix Mercury guard also makes some hilarious posts.
On Thursday, Cunningham shared an IG story about her Pilates session. She made it clear that it wasn't a high-pressure, high-stakes situation.
"I should've recorded the glute workout, hahaha everyone was in pain. the MOST unserious pilates group ever but she loves us!!!" Cunningham wrote.
It's unclear whether the companion beside Cunningham is a Mercury teammate or a friend of hers.
Getting fit for the WNBA season is a yearlong endeavor, and Cunningham has started to put in some work — although "unserious." She is coming off a 40-game season with Phoenix, the most she's played since being drafted in 2019. However, despite the uptick in games played, her scoring dipped from 11.3 points per game in 2023 to 8.4 points in 2024.
Cunningham's best season with the Mercury came in 2022 when she averaged a career-high 12.6 ppg on 44.9% shooting.
She finished third in Most Improved Player voting and helped the Mercury reach the playoffs that season.
Third annual Sophie Cunningham Classic unfolds at Columbia College
Here's something that Cunningham has undoubtedly stayed committed to: hosting a tournament for promising high school hoopers.
Last weekend, the third annual Sophie Cunningham Classic took place at Columbia College. Cunningham, a native of Columbia, Missouri, started this yearly event in December 2022. The tournament has since become a showcase for aspiring young girls to hone their talents and draw attention from college scouts.
"Creating a platform for them to continue to play really high-level basketball in their backyard is what it's about," Cunningham said, via KMIZ ABC 17 (01:26). "It's fun to interact with the fans, with the teams, with the girls."
Cunningham will look to regain her form in 2022 when the next season starts. The Phoenix Mercury made it to the playoffs in 2024 but lost in the first round to the Minnesota Lynx.
