The 2024 Paris Olympics will start soon, and the Spain Women's Basketball team will seek to win the gold medal this year. Spain last won a medal in London in 2016. The team finished second and won the silver medal.
The team's roster comprises Laura Gil, Raquel Carrera, Maite Cazorla, Queralt Casas, Megan Gustafson, Maria Conde, Alba Torrens, Cristina Ouvina, Mariona Ortiz, Leonor Rodriguez-Manso, Andrea Vilaro and Irati Etxarri. Gustafson is the leading scorer in the team, averaging 14.3 points per game. Their head coach is Miguel Mendez.
Spain started its international games with a three-game Olympic qualification round, securing a 2-1 record. The team's first game was against Japan on Feb. 8, which it failed to win, 75-86. Carerra led the team in scoring, with 21 points, but that wasn't enough for them to win.
The second game was against Canada on Feb. 9, which Spain won, 60-55. Its third friendly game against Hungary, which was close, was on Feb. 11. Fortunately, Spain overcame the challenge and won 73-72.
For the Olympic games, the Spanish team will start on Jul. 28, and its first opponent will be China. This game will kick things off for the Group games, to see which team will advance to the next round. It'll be followed up by their game against Puerto Rico on Jul. 31.
The final group game for the Spain Women's Basketball team will be against Serbia, on Aug. 3.

Paris 2024 will be the sixth appearance of the Spain Women's Basketball team
After securing a spot in the Olympics, the Spanish women's basketball team has secured its sixth appearance in the tournament. The national team failed to be part of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022. This year will be its first international participation.
Spain only has one medal in the Olympics. However, it's collected a couple of medals in other tournaments. At the FIBA World Cup competition, the national team placed second and third. It won silver in 2014 and secured bronze in 2010 and 2018.
When it comes to the EuroBasket contest, Spain has displayed dominance. The Spain Women's Basketball team won gold four times (1993, 2013, 2017, 2019). The silver medal belonged to the team twice in the tournament (2007 and 2023). Spain secured bronze multiple times (2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2015).
