Caitlin Clark continues to rack up the accolades. After the international prestige of being named the 2024 TIME Athlete of the Year, the Indiana Fever guard picked up another award, courtesy of the Sports Business Journal.
On Munday, the publication named Clark its 'Best Sports Business Athlete' for 2024.
Founded in 1998, Sports Business Journal (SBJ) is a publication devoted to equipping sports executives with news and data for making key business decisions.
SBJ's recognition of Caitlin Clark quickly made the rounds on the internet, leading to fans commenting on her impressive awards streak:
"Stacking accolades like Thanos," said one online user on X.
"Earned CC 22!! Doing amazing and at such a young age:)" said another.
A couple of fans heaped more praise at the 'GOAT.'
"Another award for the goat!! Much deserved!!" commented another netizen.
While dishing out praise, some fans had some choice words for her agent and even her major sponsor.
"CC did make the top 10 female athlete earners of 2024. Still, she needs to fire her agent for putting her on that abominable Nike contract," suggested one netizen. "That should have been renegotiated for 10 times that amount with half of that time. LeBron and Kobe are the past. CC the future."
One more online user added: "Caitlin Clark 100% earned this best sports business athlete. Now it is time for a certain shoe company to treat her with the respect she deserves as the soon to be face of women’s sports worldwide. The elites try to push other athletes, but the people want Caitlin. 💯 Organic"
Next step for Caitlin Clark: Strengthening the WNBA's global footprint
It's no surprise, then, that Caitlin Clark is being eyed to spearhead the WNBA's international expansion. Given her impact on TV viewership and live attendance in the US, the league is looking to the budding superstar as it looks to grow even more in popularity.
According to a report by SBJ's Tom Friend, the WNBA has plans to increase Clark's presence overseas:
"When she played in an Annika Sorenstam golf pro-am in November, she attracted Arnold Palmer-type galleries and signed autographs on hats, T-shirts and bare skin," said Friend. "The WNBA is not oblivious and, according to sources, eventually will schedule a Fever game overseas to capitalize on her Q rating."
Aside from her slew of individual honors, Clark could take things to the next level by boosting the WNBA's business on the global stage.
