Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark has arguably been a record-breaking machine since her WNBA debut this season. The former Iowa Hawkeyes phenom clinched a staggering new stat following her recent output against the Chicago Sky on Friday.

After dishing out 12 assists in the game, Clark is currently ranked higher than 78.9% of all players in WNBA history in the career assists category, per StatMamba. She has a total of 264 assists in her rookie season and has only played just 32 games in the league to record the feat.

Caitlin Clark had previously broken the rookie assists record on Aug. 18 when she surpassed the 224 mark during the Fever's matchup against the Seattle Storm. The star rookie also set the all-time single-game assist record with 19 during Indiana's 101-93 loss against the Dallas Wings on July 17.

Averaging a league-leading 8.3 assists per game, the No. 1 pick of the 2024 WNBA draft is now 53 assists away from securing the overall assists record. With eight games left in the regular season, Clark can breach the mark if she keeps up her pace.

Caitlin Clark drops career-high points in victory against Sky

In the highly anticipated regular season showdown matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky on Friday, Caitlin Clark led the Fever to a dominant 100-81 victory.

The WNBA All-Star recorded a double-double stat line in the game with her career-high 31 points along with 12 assists, four rebounds and one steal. Clark also shot an efficient 57.1% from the field, including 5 of 9 from deep, as the Fever won their regular season series 3-1 against the Sky.

During the postgame interview after the win, Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts on the game.

"Felt like we were flowing well out there, it just felt like pretty basketball," Clark said. "Sometimes, I think as a basketball player, you can just feel it. I thought that's what we had. We knew it was a big one, but we also wanted to win the season series with them. That was kind of a focus point.
"So, I thought it was another opportunity for us to come in here and show what we're about, and I thought we were really good, and honestly, I just had a lot of fun playing, I thought we played with a lot of joy, we played up-tempo, we shared the ball well."

With the win on Friday, Indiana improved to a 16-16 record in the season to climb to the sixth spot in the WNBA standings while riding a three-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Chicago suffered its fifth straight loss to slip to an 11-20 record as it held on to the eighth spot.
