Breanna Stewart is in Miami for the debut season of Unrivaled, the 3x3 basketball tournament she co-founded with fellow WNBA star Napheesa Collier. The six teams, made up of six players each, play only on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Unrivaled’s scheduling allows players plenty of downtime.
With time on her hands, Stewie wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Top high school teams in the Miami area?? Send the schedules pleaseeee.”
Fans promptly reacted to her post:
“Stewie doing recruiting for UConn during Unrivaled. I love to see it. Never settling.”
One fan contributed:
“Not Miami area but central Florida (between Tampa and Orlando). Look at Winter Haven HS girls basketball. That’s where @tiphayes3 came from. We grew up hearing about her and her success for years here.”
Another fan said:
“IMG plays Miami Country Day - big-time talent on both teams”
@KDoggyMustafa added:
“Columbus High School
“St. Thomas Aquinas (It’s More North In Fort Lauderdale But Still Close To Miami)”
@bueckerstofudd continued:
“My goat can you go to Montverde and recruit Agot Makeer to Uconn.”
Many of the top girls’ high schools in Florida are roughly three hours from the Wayfair Arena in Miami, where Unrivaled is based. If Breanna Stewart wants to watch them live, she can do it after a Monday game to give her ample time to scout.
Montverde Academy (13-1), IMG Academy (12-3), DME Academy (18-3), Winter Haven (16-2) and Central Pointe Christian (14-4) are a few of the top teams in Florida. The closest girls’ basketball programs that are doing reasonably well near Stewart include the Miami Country Day (11-8) and Miami Senior High School (11-7).
Breanna Stewart had a legendary career at UConn
Many consider Breanna Stewart the greatest college women’s basketball player ever. Stewie won a championship with the UConn Huskies in each of her four years with the program. The versatile star earned the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award during that stretch.
No school won the NCAA Division 1 women’s championship four straight times until Stewart came. She was arguably the most impactful player in the most successful run in women’s college basketball.
UConn continues to gather top talent and is a perennial favorite to challenge for the title. Still, they have not won the national championship since Breanna Stewart left the program in 2016. The Unrivaled co-founder is likely looking at more talent to help her alma mater return to the top of women’s college basketball.
