The Las Vegas Aces are among the many WNBA teams playing their final regular season game on Thursday. Before it's time to dial in for the playoffs, one of their players was seen poking fun at a former teammate.
Earlier this summer, Dearica Hamby made waves when she filed a lawsuit against her former team. She claimed Vegas didn't treat her properly after telling the franchise she was pregnant and was eventually traded. Two weeks ago, rumors surfaced that the organization and the WNBA had filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit.
However, it doesn't appear that players on the Aces hold a grudge against Hamby. Sydney Colson was seen commenting on her latest Instagram post with an NSFW remark about her posture and hand placement.
"What u grabbing?" Colson commented.
"LMAOOO Which picture?" Hamby wrote.
"where ur grabbing ur nuts or something?!" Colson wrote.
"You'd like to know huh," Hamby replied.
Hamby had a good time with Vegas, winning Sixth Woman of the Year two times. However, she's seen her production increase since being dealt to the LA Sparks in January 2023.
This season, Hamby is putting up the best numbers of her career. Across 39 games, she is averaging 17.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals.
As for the reigning champions, they are gearing up for what they hope will be another deep postseason run.
Las Vegas Aces in a position to join exclusive WNBA company
Entering the 2024 postseason, the Las Vegas Aces sit at the No. 4 seed. Along with attempting to defend their championship, they also have a chance to join an exclusive company.
In the WNBA and NBA, going back-to-back is an impressive feat in itself. However, three-peating is something that can immortalize a team. This postseason, Las Vegas is in a position to join such a historic company.
At the moment, only one WNBA franchise has been able to pull off a three-peat. That was the Houston Comets, who won the first four championships in league history (1997-2000). Going back-to-back has also been rare. Before Vegas pulled it off in 2023, the last franchise to do so was the LA Sparks in 2001 and 2002.
The Aces have their work cut out for them. That said, one thing they have going for them is they have arguably the best player in the league on their roster.
From the start of the season, A'ja Wilson has been nothing short of dominant. She broke the single-season scoring record and became the first player to score 1,000 points in a season. On track to win her third MVP, the superstar center now has to try and lead her team to a third straight title.
