WNBA veteran Dearica Hamby made headlines after filing a lawsuit against her former team, the Las Vegas Aces, over the treatment she received after getting pregnant. The lawsuit alleges that the Aces didn't honor previously agreed stipulations, which included paying her daughter's private school tuition.

Moreover, Hamby claimed that after making her pregnancy public, she faced scrutiny from some staffers who questioned her commitment to the team.

Former two-time WNBA champion Devereaux Peters, who won NBA championships in 2013 and 2015, tweeted on Tuesday that she once faced a similar situation.

Peters posted:

"I'm going to say this as someone who was moments away from suing the league and a team myself lol.... The team did something illegal (federally) *and* breached my contract and when they realized I knew it was illegal, they panicked and tried to course correct..."
"When I went to the union about it they suggested I settle with the team, not because what they did wasn't illegal, or that they weren't admittedly breaching my contract but because in the history of the league there had never been an arbitration....ever," She continued.

She added that when somebody wants to take action against a team through the WNBA, they have to use the league's counsel, which she doesn't think is a fair method for resolving conflicts.

Peters finished her comments by defending Dearica Hamby, saying that the league and the union, Women's National Basketball Players Association, aren't structured to protect players.

Dearica Hamby first requested the WNBA's Players Union to investigate the Las Vegas Aces

This isn't the first time Dearica Hamby has locked horns with the Las Vegas Aces. She requested an investigation through the WNBPA last year which resulted in the Aces being penalized for violating league rules concerning impressible players benefits. The team was stripped of a 2025 first-round draft pick, and coach Becky Hammon was punished with two games without pay.

Becky Hammon denied the accusations, offering her side of the story.

"It just didn't happen, the bullying. I spoke with her every day. If she wanted to practice, she practiced. If she didn't, she didn't. Over-the-top care, actually. Over-the-top care. That's the facts."

Dearica Hamby was booed during Friday's game against the Aces.
