Coco Gauff ran into WNBA superstar A'ja Wilson ahead of the inaugural ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 26. The tennis star was selected as this year's flag bearer for the United States delegation, alongside NBA legend LeBron James.
Before joining the rest of the athletes, Gauff embraced Wilson, expressing her admiration for the basketball star:
"I love you so much. You're so inspirational."
After Wilson pulled out her phone to take a picture with Gauff, the No. 2 player in the WTA ranking said:
"I used to play a little basketball, but I wasn't good."
To this, Wilson replied:
"You're amazing. You're amazing."
At 20, Coco Gauff is one of the brightest prospects in American tennis. She's the highest-ranked American player on the WTA Tour, surpassing Jessica Pegula (sixth), Danielle Collins (ninth), Madison Keys (14th) and Emma Navarro (15th).
Since becoming a pro, Gauff has won seven singles titles, earning $15.1 million in prize money with a 210-93 career record. This year, she has won one singles title and $2.9 million while posting a 35-11 record.
