"That kid would have scored on Angel Reese" - WNBA fans in hysterics over Caitlin Clark's brutal rejection of a kid's shot

WNBA: Indiana Fever at Connecticut Sun
Basketball fans react to Caitlin Clark blocking a young fan's shot.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have a two-day break after losing 89-72 to the streaking Connecticut Sun. The Fever’s next three WNBA games will all be at home so the team spent some time reaching out to their supportive fans. Clark was unquestionably going to be the star most of the fans wanted to interact with.

A little boy must have been giddy with excitement when he had the opportunity to play against Clark. The young fan showed off his dribbling before attempting a mid-range jumper which the former Iowa superstar emphatically rejected. In disbelief that she did that, the boy went up to her and seemed to ask her why she had to block the shot.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, promptly reacted to the clip, with a couple mentioning Clark's fellow rookie Angel Reese:

“That kid would have scored on Angel Reese”
"Angel Reese has the same reaction," another fan said.

One fan added a bit of controversy:

“Chennedy would have swept the leg.”

Another fan noted the real score:

“CC is 1-0 against males in basketball”

@SirWinston85 predicted how the experience will have an impact on the young boy:

“He will forever seek out great manly things because of this very moment, when a woman utterly express mailed his shot into next week.”

Caitlin Clark’s defense is perhaps the biggest weakness in her game even back when she starred for the Hawkeyes. It’s the same issue that has been plaguing her in the WNBA. She might have been relentlessly trolled had she allowed him to score.

The reference to Angel Reese was a great touch by the said fan. Reese is Clark’s rival since their collegiate days and the Chicago Sky rookie is already proving her worth defensively this year. Linking the two together will become a theme that will likely stay on throughout their pro careers.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever have to improve on defense

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever hold a 3-10 record after the loss to the Connecticut Sun on Monday. They might have been carrying a worse win-loss slate if not for their offense, which is quite bad to begin with. The Fever, though, are just a nightmare on defense.

Indiana’s 111.7 defensive rating is the worst in the WNBA by a wide margin. The Washington Mystics, who are winless in 12 games, are much better than them. Washington’s 103.3 DRTG is not in the same zip code as the Fever.

The Indiana Fever are not likely even sniffing the playoffs but they have to improve their horrific showing defensively. Caitlin Clark, who wouldn’t let a young fan score on her, has to answer the bell together with her teammates.
