After arguably the most dominant year of her already impressive career, A'ja Wilson is enjoying the downtime of the offseason. While answering questions on social media, the three-time MVP gave her thoughts on one of America's top sports.
On Sunday, Wilson decided to hop on Threads and do a Q&A with her fans. In the spirit of football season, one of the things she was asked was who her favorite NFL team is. Wilson provided a response, though it wasn't what the fan was expecting.
A'ja Wilson admitted that she doesn't know much about the NFL, and isn't much of a fan of football. She stated that she worries for the players when she watches because of the sport's physical nature.
"Idk football like that but everytime I watch football I literally pray for all the players cause that sport is scary."
While Wilson fell short of leading the Las Vegas Aces to a three-peat, her play was still nothing short of dominant. She averaged a career-high 26.9 points, setting a new single-season scoring record in the process. On top of winning her third WNBA MVP in five years, she also took home MVP honors in the Summer Olympics.
A'ja Wilson praises former Aces teammate Kate Martin
When she wasn't giving her take on football, A'ja Wilson also fielded some questions about the Aces. The superstar center had a lot of kind words to say about one of her now-former teammates.
After being drafted in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft, Kate Martin managed to secure a roster spot on the Aces. She'd appear in 34 games as a rookie, averaging 2.6 points and shooting 35.5% from beyond the arc.
During her Q&A, A'ja Wilson was asked about what it was like having Martin as a teammate. She spoke highly of her, saying the energy she brought to the team was contagious.
"Kate’s energy was contagious ! Never backed down from anyone."
Unfortunately for Wilson, her time with Martin as a teammate has come to an end. Earlier this month, the WNBA held an expansion draft for the incoming Golden State Valkyries. With their sixth pick, they selected Martin from the Aces.
With the Aces having a loaded roster, it left young players like Martin exposed in the expansion draft. Now, they'll have to continue searching for young talent to fill the pipeline with.
While a handful of WNBA players are set to play in the opening season of the new Unrivaled league, Wilson will not be among them. She'll continue to train behind the scenes in preparation for the 2025 season.
