Candace Parker retired from basketball in April

Two months after re-signing with the Las Vegas Aces, Candace Parker announced her retirement from basketball in April. Parker was coming off an injury-riddled campaign last year in her first season in Las Vegas. She underwent foot surgery last July, but still won her third WNBA championship.

A growing family and a budding career in broadcasting meant that the sport said goodbye to one of the very best. She already accomplished all the things she could in the WNBA. She's a three-time champ, a former league MVP, a Rookie of the Year and a seven-time WNBA All-Star.

"I promised I'd never cheat the game & that I'd leave it in a better place than I came into it. The competitor in me always wants 1 more, but it's time. My HEART & body knew, but I needed to give my mind time to accept it," Parker wrote on Instagram.

The Tennesee product also won five Russian league titles, four Russian cups and the prestigious Euroleague Championship with UMMC Ekaterinburg. She also won two NCAA championships with the Lady Vols and two Olympic gold medals with Team USA.
