July 19: Team WNBA All-Star coach Cheryl Miller talks to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark during practice for Saturday's All-Star Game agains the U.S. Olympic team.

One of the pioneers of women's basketball, Cheryl Miller, had no shortage of big moments as a player and now has another basketball accolade to add to her resume, stepping in as the coach for Team WNBA at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday. She led Team WNBA to a 117-109 upset win over Team USA, which is set to play its first game in the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 28.

Leading up to the WNBA All-Star Game, Miller was asked about her legendary 105-point performance in high school.

"It was one of those nights. Players talk about being in the zone, and I had a big zone" Miller said about her historic performance.

The game occurred on Jan. 26, 1982. Miller's Riverside Poly squad beat Riverside North Vista High School 175-15, with Miller scoring 60.0% of her team's 175 points.

Miller was taken out of the game with two minutes left.

"I have no idea, I certainly wasn't tired," Miller said jokingly.

Miller was a four-time high school All-American and went on to become a trailblazing figure in women's sports.

Cheryl Miller coached rookie rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in WNBA All-Star Game

Cheryl Miller had the unique opportunity to coach both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in the WNBA All-Star Game, with each player posting impressive efforts to help lead Team WNBA to a win over Team USA.

Reese had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Clark had a WNBA All-Star Game rookie record with 10 assists, finishing two assists shy of breaking Sue Bird's record of 11.

Clark and Reese have been rivals since their days in college and have seen their rivalry translate to the WNBA. Even so, they displayed chemistry in the game, with Clark feeding Reese for one of her assists.

After the game, Reese was asked about her experience playing alongside Clark, rather than against.

"It's so cool," Reese responded. "When she gets the ball, I'm looking for the ball because I know she's gonna throw it. Hopefully, in four years, we'll be Olympians together."

The two players have a bright future in the WNBA and boasted impressive performances in their first WNBA All-Star Game with Miller leading the way.
