While many had likely written off the Indiana Fever after their early season struggles, they persevered to turn their season around. That resilience has since paid off and instead of languishing at the bottom of the league standings, they successfully clinched a playoff spot, their first since 2016.
The Fever certainly put the league on notice and even two-time defending champions Las Vegas Aces know to watch out for them. While speaking to the media on Friday, Aces coach Becky Hammon gave Indiana's offense some praise.
In doing so, she also hinted that her squad was ready to do anything in their power defensively:
"They're a legit three-headed monster," Hammon said. "You have to play defense against this team. Otherwise, they're just too good offensively. We don't want to get into a situation where we have to outscore them because they really have some unbelievable scorers."
By three-headed monster, Hammon is likely referring to Indiana's All-Star trio of Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and the 2024 WNBA draft's No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark.
Mitchell currently leads the team in scoring with 19.3 points per game, followed closely by Clark with 19.1 ppg. Boston has the lowest scoring average among the three All-Stars but is still putting up a respectable 14.1 ppg.

Indiana Fever has yet to defeat Las Vegas Aces
While Becky Hammon praised the high-powered offense led by Mitchell, Clark and Boston, the Aces have found a way to stop them at every turn so far this season.
Both teams faced each other three times in the regular season. The first meeting for the 2024 season was on May 25. The Aces' defense held Clark to only eight points in that game and Indiana lost 99-80 in the end.
Their next clash took place on July 2. While Mitchell scored 23 and Boston added 18, Clark was once again locked down. The rookie only managed 13 points while shooting 4-for-12 from the field and 1-for-7 from beyond the arc. Just like their first game, the Aces won by a landslide 88-69.
Their most recent matchup was on Wednesday and once again, the Fever's high-powered offense could not overcome the Aces. While Clark scored 16 points this time around, she struggled to get the ball in the basket, going 6-for-22 from the field and 1-for-10 from 3. The Aces prevailed by double-figures yet again, winning 86-75.
In their final game of the regular season on Friday, the Aces took the series with another win. However, it was a much closer affair, with Hammon's team coming away with a 78-74 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Chelsea Gray led the Aces with a game-high 21 points, while MVP favorite A'Ja Wilson registered 17 rebounds and 15 points on the night.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was the Fever's leading scorer in the contest with 20 points. Clark nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
