The WNBA is still in the offseason but fans are already excited for a potential Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale team-up. Following the Dallas Wings’ draft lottery win, the team is expected to make the UConn star the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft. Many expect a Bueckers-Ogunbowale partnership to be one of the best in the league next season.
Recently, Bueckers and Ogunbowale posed for photos together, which only added to the hype surrounding them. Fans promptly reacted to the pictures on Instagram:
“This is going to be dangerous to one of the best Guards duo in WNBA History.”
One fan said:
“This would be so 🔥🔥🔥!!! Arike deserves a great squad in Dallas!”
Another fan added:
“much love 🙏🏼”
One user wrote:
“Ngl I will miss Paige at UConn. We have to let our girl go though 😭. She will be historic in Dallas! I feel it ☺️🔥”
Another fan reacted:
“WNBA is gonna be a movie next year”
The photo happened before Notre Dame, Ogunbowale’s former team in college, took on UConn on Thursday. Bueckers had another impressive game for the Huskies, but her school lost 79-68 to the No. 8 ranked Fighting Irish.
Arike Ogunbowale undoubtedly cheered for Notre Dame, as did multiple WNBA players who used to play for Notre Dame. In a few months, the WNBA All-Star could be rooting for Paige Bueckers if the Dallas Wings do as many predicted.
Paige Bueckers in Dallas can help Arike Ogunbowale carry the Wings
Arike Ogunbowale averaged 22.2 points per game last season. The Dallas Wings limped to a 9-31 record as she had very little help, particularly from her backcourt mates. Ogunbowale shared playmaking and scoring duties with Sevgi Uzun, Jacy Sheldon, Lou Lopez Senechal and Jaelyn Brown.
The quartet averaged 13.3 points and 6.3 assists per game combined. Dallas opponents usually collapsed on Ogunbowale as her backcourt partners had limited production and impact.
If the Wings get Paige Bueckers, which many expect them to do, the team should get a boost from her presence. The UConn star is averaging 20.0 PPG on 57.6% shooting, including 40.0% from deep.
Bueckers is also contributing 4.9 RPG, 4.2 APG and 2.3 SPG this season. Even if she can’t carry the same numbers to the WNBA, Dallas is expected to have a more dynamic offense with that potential 1-2 punch.
