Caitlin Clark was hyped for teammate Lexie Hull after the Indiana Fever's win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday night at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Hull set her career high in the 92-75 victory, draining clutch threes in the fourth quarter to ice the game.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Clark was overjoyed by Hull's career night that saw her finish with 22 points off the bench. She went 8-for-10 from the field, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc, in just 21 minutes.
"This is now a Lexie Hull fan account," Clark tweeted.
The Indiana Fever had a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter before they caught fire midway through the period. Hull started the run with two 3-point shots around the eight-minute mark. She then added two more from beyond the arc with four minutes remaining.
Indiana outscored the Seattle Storm 33-17 in the fourth quarter to secure the second straight win. They have now won the first two games of the second half of the season, which were against two teams with a record above the .500 mark. They defeated Phoenix Mercury 98-89 on Friday night.
The Fever improved to 13-15 for the season and remained in seventh place. They are still in the playoff spots and have a chance to further climb the standings. Caitlin Clark has looked comfortable and energized after a month's rest. She had 23 points, five rebounds and nine assists on Sunday.
Kelsey Mitchell contributed 27 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Aliyah Boston added nine points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. The team seems to be clicking at the right time with 12 games remaining in the regular season.
Caitlin Clark breaks rookie record for assists in a season
Caitlin Clark's impressive rookie season reached another milestone when she broke the record for most assists by a first-year player. Clark had nine assists on Sunday night to bring her total to 232. She broke Ticha Penicheiro's rookie record of 224 set in 1998 with her third assist of the game.
The Iowa product leads the league in assists per game and total assists this season. She has made an impact not just on the WNBA and the Indiana Fever, but on the entire women's basketball. It seems like she has adjusted her game after struggling early on.
"If you'd told me I was going to lead the league in assists coming in here in my rookie season, I probably would have told you that you were lying. But I take a lot of pride in that.
