Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum was married to former NFL tight end Darren Waller. However, their marriage didn't last long as they filed for divorce after just one year. Following their breakup, Plum talked about how it impacted her personal life moving forward.
The former couple got married in March 2023, after dating for just one year. This also came before Waller joined the New York Giants. The two decided to end their marriage and go their separate ways in April 2024.
However, being as they're both celebrities, their divorce was public. For Plum, it wasn't easy dealing with her personal life as others wanted an inside scoop on her breakup with Waller. She opened up to ESPN on dealing with the divorce from the former star footballer and how it affected her life.
"Going through a very public divorce is something I was not expecting," Plum said. "It felt like the rug got taken out from under me. I think people may look at me like, 'Oh, she's super tough.' But this one really broke me.
The WNBA star said that the only way she knew how to deal with her problems at that time was with her faith.
"I deleted social media off my phone. I got a new phone, and don't have very many people's numbers. I turned off TV and just got into reading my Bible. I'll just say that emotionally, I'll be feeling this for a long time."
Even with what happened to her personal life, Plum has not allowed it to affect her professional life. The Aces guard has remained consistent and proved that she was still a star in the league. She finished the season with 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
Kelsey Plum was 'devastated' following the divorce
Kelsey Plum did not hide what she felt after her divorce from Waller. She expressed her thoughts and feelings on her X (formerly Twitter) account. Plum addressed the news about herself and her ex-husband with a post.
"I'm devastated. I walked through fire for that man," Plum posted. "But now I see it's time to go. God has given me an incredible life, and I'm truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends. One day I'll share my story, today is not that day."
It's been months since the couple filed for divorce and Plum has shifted her focus on playing for her team. The Aces have a chance to win a third straight WNBA championship and need the star's dedication.
