Angel Reese shrugs off criticism following her record-setting performance as Sky rookie

Angel Reese keeps getting better this 2024 WNBA season, showing a different side of her game. Besides being a prolific rebounder for the Chicago Sky, Reese has gotten better at scoring, ranking second among rookies in June.

Following the Sky's 83-72 win over the Dallas Wings on Thursday in which she set a WNBA rookie record with her seventh consecutive double-double, Reese talked about the criticism she's received for being a rebounder and not showing much improvement at scoring. The former LSU star broke down what she's meant to do for her team and how she differentiates herself from other players.

"I knew coming into the league what I was gonna bring," Reese said. "I don't really care about outside things. I knew my game was gonna change because I rebound, I play hard. ... That's just my job within this team. To rebound."

When asked about the changes she made for Thursday's game, Angel Reese doubled down.

"I remember watching the first time we played against Dallas and just being able to watch film a lot," Reese said. "I watch a lot of film, and I kinda have a really good eye for the ball. When my teammates or the other team misses, I just try to get another possession going for us.
"Diving on the floor, trynna get steals and trynna do the dirty work. A lot of people don't wanna do the dirty work. I'll step in ... I'll mess up my nails and lashes and stuff like that just for my teammates."

Angel Reese recorded a double-double against the Wings

Angel Reese made a statement Thursday, impacting the game with her points and rebounds. The young star scored 16 points, only three less than the leaders of the squad, Chennedy Carter and Marina Mabrey, and added a game-high 18 rebounds.

Reese is one of the league's future stars, and she's seemingly getting better by the day. The Chicago Sky went through a four-game losing streak, taking big losses against the Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever, two weaker teams on paper.

Reese and company bounced back at home, with the young center leading her team in rebounds for the eighth consecutive game.
