Chicago Sky star Angel Reese opened up on the challenges of dealing with so much hate during her life, admitting that she used to focus on the bad things people said to her. During an interview with Speedy Morman for "360 with Speedy," the forward was inquired about the negative comments she receives on X (formerly Twitter).
Reese explained on Wednesday how she navigates through the waves of all the negative comments she's received but also acknowledged that she's paying more attention to the positive words she gets.
"I think it really inspires me to continue to wake up every morning and just keep going. I've had so many people that do come to me and are positive to me and say like, 'I love you, keep going,' 'You inspire me' from ages four to ages 60, like it doesn't matter, people really do genuinely love me and I think of the positive before I think of the negative, and it took me a little minute to get to where I am right now.
"And obviously, early on I'm like, 'Why do people hate me so much?' and 'Why are people so negative?' But then, I look back at it looked myself in the mirror and knowing who I am and being inspired of who I am and knowing that one people would say like, 'I wanna be like Angel Reese' or 'Angel Reese really really inspired me or touched me,'" Reese said. Angel Reese responds to fan mocking her layups
At the same time, Angel Reese had enough of one X/Twitter user trying to clown her over her layup attempts. During her rookie WNBA season, Reese missed layups that seemed easy to make, which raised several eyebrows around the league.
"do you realize I got drafted 7th in my class while “missing layups” as a ROOKIE shooting 39% on the year & was STILL a all star and that was the worst you’ll ever see me??? or you just laid up with your dog at home hating Adam??" she asked this person.
Angel Reese reflected on those comments during the season, admitting that her offensive game needed to improve, but committing to do the dirty work that her team needed to be done. She's been hitting the gym during the offseason, trying to expand her shooting range and game in general.
