Sheryl Swoopes loves watching Angel Reese dominate the WNBA court. Swoopes once shared a lengthy embrace with the rookie after leading the Chicago Sky to a thrilling 88-87 win over the Indiana Fever in June. She has praised the rookie All-Star multiple times in her interview.
On Wednesday, Reese and the Sky hosted the Washington Mystics. Before the game, Swoopes was again asked to comment about what the former LSU star has done this season for her team and the league.
“I wanna see her continue to be a dawg," the three time WNBA MVP said. "She is a dawg! I love the fact that she’s just her. She is unapologetically Angel. She plays hard on both ends of the floor, doesn’t matter what the score is.
"I just love how she’s coming into this league, she’s embraced the bumps, the bruises, she has embraced the good with the bad. I just love watching her play because she plays hard the entire game.”
The “Chi Barbie” comparatively struggled against the Mystics. She had seven points, 14 rebounds and two assists but committed a game-high six turnovers. The Rookie of the Year contender couldn’t score in the final quarter and coughed up the ball three times. Chicago lost 74-70, its fourth straight, and dropped its record to 11-19.
The Chicago Sky are in danger of missing the playoffs if they can’t stop their slide. They are just one game ahead of the Atlanta Dream (10-20) for the final playoff spot. Washington, winners of its last three games, has also crept into the race for the last postseason ticket. The Mystics improved to 9-22 following the win against the Sky.
Stephen A. Smith ripped Sheryl Swoopes for overlooking Caitlin Clark’s impact on the Indiana Fever
On her podcast “Queens of the Court,” Sheryl Swoopes acknowledged the Indiana Fever’s surge after the Olympic break. Caitlin Clark has been a huge reason for her team’s 5-1 record since the games resumed. The WNBA named her the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for her performances.
Swoopes mentioned Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston but failed to include Clark. Stephen A. Smith wouldn’t allow the Hall of Famer to get away with that.
“Sheryl Swoopes. No Caitlin Clark? Respectfully, Sheryl Swoopes, do you have any idea how that makes you look? … You realize Sheryl Swoopes that you’re insane to do that?" Smith said.
"You know basketball! You know basketball better than me. You know basketball better than any of the pundits. You know basketball better than the men that play basketball. There’s no way in hell you just accidentally left Caitlin Clark’s name out.”
While Swoopes enjoy praising Angel Reese, Smith wasn't happy to not hear Clark's praise from her.
