Fans of the WNBA are looking forward to what Caitlin Clark can do at the highest level after she was drafted with the first pick by the Indiana Fever on Monday, Apr. 15. There has been a lot of fanfare around the WNBA prospect as she transitions to the pros.
Many have set their expectations for Clark, but not everyone is aware of what she's planning on doing in the WNBA. The league's most hyped player shared what she wants to accomplish in her first season.
During her introductory press, Clark talked about what fans could look forward to from her.
"I think the biggest thing is, we want to get back to the playoffs," Clark said. "I feel like that's been something I've been able to do at every single level I've played at. I think that's the biggest goal for every single person in this room."
Clark talked about it at the 29:35 mark.
Indiana hasn't been in the playoffs since the 2017 season. For the young star, her goal is to lead the team back to relevancy and compete against some of the best teams in the playoffs. It's a tough ask for a rookie, but Clark seems confident she can help lead the team early in her career.
Caitlin Clark feels at home in Indiana
For a player, being comfortable in the city you're playing for is extremely important. For Indiana's WNBA team, they shouldn't be worried about Caitlin Clark as she feels right at home.
Since she's from Iowa, moving to Indianapolis was quite an easy adjustment. It's just a few hours away from her hometown and it was her desire to be drafted by the organization.
"I was hoping Indiana got the first pick, it made my life a lot better. So I was pretty excited. I was just ready for a new challenge in my life," Clark said in her introductory press conference.
Many are expecting Clark to make an impact in the league in her first season. There's some pressure from fans, but it looks like the former Iowa star is ready to take on the challenges that a professional athlete faces.
