A'ja Wilson was officially awarded her third WNBA MVP title on Sunday just as the Las Vegas Aces prepared to face the Seattle Storm in the first round of the playoffs. She became only the second player in league history to win the MVP unanimously, following Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who achieved the feat in 1997, the league’s inaugural season.

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert presented A'ja Wilson with the MVP trophy before Game 1 of the Aces-Storm series, where the Las Vegas forward celebrated with her teammates and family.

A'ja Wilson earned all 67 first-place votes for a total of 670 points from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier finished second with 66 second-place votes and 467 points. Breanna Stewart, who led the New York Liberty to the best record in the league, tallied 295 points for third place, while the rookie of the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark, finished fourth with 130 points. Connecticut Sun’s Alyssa Thomas (83 points) rounded out the top five.

Wilson joined an elite group, becoming the fourth player in WNBA history to win three MVP awards, alongside Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson.

Looking at A'ja Wilson's historic season

A'ja Wilson set single-season records for both points and rebounds this year while topping the league in blocks. She became the first player in WNBA history to exceed 1,000 points in a season, breaking Jewell Loyd’s previous scoring record while also surpassing Angel Reese’s single-season rebounding record.

Wilson concluded her season with 1,021 points and 451 rebounds, also setting a new WNBA single-season scoring average of 26.9 points per game. This season, she became the Aces' all-time leader in both total points and rebounds.

Her 9.8 defensive rebounds per game marked the highest single-season average in WNBA history.

A'ja Wilson earned the Kia WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month award four times and was named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week six times in the 2024 season.

Wilson made her sixth WNBA All-Star Game appearance and led Team USA to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, where she was also honored as MVP. She posted the two highest-scoring games of the 2024 WNBA season, dropping 42 points against the Dallas Wings in August and 41 points against the Phoenix Mercury earlier this month.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, Wilson is now aiming to guide the Aces to a third consecutive championship. Her latest MVP award adds to her impressive list of achievements, which includes rookie of the year, two defensive player of the year awards and a Finals MVP.
