Chicago Sky fans have been clamoring for Angel Reese to get the microphone during one of her WNBA games. On Wednesday, the team finally gave in and posted on X, formerly Twitter, a clip of the “Chi Barbie” mic’d-up during a practice session. The Sky rookie didn’t disappoint with what she said during one of Chicago’s scrimmages.
Reese was active, energetic and showed leadership during the whole session. She was always on her teammates, cheering and encouraging them to do what Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon asked them to. In a few instances, she even acted like an assistant coach.
At one point in the video, Reese could be seen singing and dancing to a few bars of “Latto’s” “Big Mama” song. She pretended to hold a microphone and busted out her dance moves. Chicago’s All-Star forward also named some of the themes behind the artist’s songs.
Finally, she claimed:
“I know the whole album with Megan Thee Stallion and Squeeze. I know it all.”
At around the 0:37 mark, following a fast break attack, Angel Reese scored after a nifty crossover. She told Chennedy Carter this after making a righty layup:
“I used to be a guard. Until I got real tall.”
Angel Reese pokes fun at Teresa Weatherspoon
The video also featured some banter betwee Angel Reese and Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon. In one instance, Reese teases her asking if she's tired. She then says:
“Yo, you need some water?”
Angel Reese once talked about her "guard skills" in 2022
In 2022, during LSU’s 100-45 demolition of Northwestern State, Reese showed versatility that impressed coach Kim Mulkey. She had this to say to reporters when asked about her ability to get up and down the court:
(7:09 mark)
"When I was younger, I was a point guard, so I've always been a point guard since I was young until I hit middle school. High school I moved down to the post. So I always had guard skills.”
This season, Teresa Weatherspoon hasn’t given Reese that kind of freedom on offense. The forward usually gives up the basketball after securing the rebound so the offense can start. She hardly runs the floor with the ball to start fast breaks. Chicago might give her that opportunity in the future though.
