Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky celebrated Dana Evans' birthday on Thursday during their first practice since the Olympic break. Evans, who turned 26, received a gift from her teammates. She has been with the Sky since 2021 after the Dallas Wings had traded her six games into her rookie season.
In a post by the Sky on X, formerly known as Twitter, coach Teresa Weatherspoon led the way by greeting Evans a happy birthday. The entire team, including Reese, sang to her and gave her a gift inside a box. It turned out into a wild celebration as every player started dancing as if they were at a party.
At the end of the video, the Sky players lined up and made Evans run in the middle as she held her gift high above her head. Her teammates began poking her sides as she ran before returning for another go, this time to several slaps on her behind.
Here's the video of the birthday celebration at practice:
All the players who are not in the Olympics have had a two-week break, but it's now time to prepare for the second half of the regular season. Angel Reese enjoyed her vacation, going to London and Paris with one of her friends, former Oregon track star Jasmine Reed.
The Chicago Sky have some advantage heading into the second half of the season. They have no players in the Olympics, so they can develop more chemistry as they try to improve after a 10-14 start to the campaign. They are eighth in the WNBA but can certainly improve with a strong second half.
However, it's going to be tougher, as they will need to go through four top teams in their first five games since the break. They face the Phoenix Mercury (twice), the Las Vegas Aces, the LA Sparks and the Connecticut Sun.
Angel Reese adds 'team owner' to her growing resume
Angel Reese has had a growing resume on and off the court. She can add "team owner" to it after a huge announcement from DC Power Football Club. Reese will be one of the owners of the team that's set to play this summer in the United Soccer League Super League.
"I've always wanted to impact sports, not just women's basketball. I've always said I wanted to have part ownership of something. Obviously, basketball is my main thing, but growing up in the DMV area, I've loved sports, always, so being able to be a part of the Power FC soccer is going to be so cool," Reese said. [H/T Yahoo! Reese grew up in the DMV area and even went to Maryland for two seasons before transferring to LSU.
