Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark just received her sixth technical foul of the 2024 WNBA season. The Fever were playing the second of their back-to-back games against the Las Vegas Aces on Friday. However, at the start of the first period, tensions were already high.
Indiana was on the defensive end when Aces guard Tiffany Hayes drove to the basket to try and shoot the basketball. Clark was the player defending her and she tried to create contact with Hayes. However, there was too much physicality with her defense, which led to the one-time All-Star falling on the floor.
An official blew their whistle to call a foul but Clark was surprised that she was issued a technical foul. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star wasn't happy with the technical foul, as it was her sixth of the season.
Watch the sequence below to see how Caitlin Clark got her sixth technical foul.
Under WNBA rules, a player or coach will get a one-game suspension without pay if they accumulated seven technical fouls throughout the season. Following that, an additional suspension will be issued after every two technical fouls.
Clark could face a suspension before the season ends if she accumulates a seventh technical foul. After tonight's game against the Aces, the Fever only have two games left in their campaign. However, the rookie guard should remain cautious, as the playoffs will soon follow after the regular season concludes.
Caitlin Clark continues to struggle against the Aces
The Aces have been a challenging matchup for Caitlin Clark this season. In Thursday's game, Clark scored only 16 points and shot 1-of-10 from the three-point range. Her goal in the game is to redeem herself and help the Fever secure a win in their final matchup against the defending champions.
However, the defensive plans that Las Vegas has on Clark have been effective so far. After the first period tonight, the one-time All-Star has not scored a point. The Fever guard is also 0-5 from the field and 0-2 from beyond the arc, as of writing.
Fortunately, there are other things that she does well on the court other than scoring the basket. Clark has a rebound and six assists after the first quarter. The first half isn't over and she still has time to change her approach and play better offensively.
