Caitlin Clark wasted no time in sharing a heartwarming moment after the WNBA’s month-long hiatus as the Indiana Fever geared up to face the Phoenix Mercury on Friday. The star rookie had an adorable interaction with the baby of one of her teammates before the game.
Just before the game began, Caitlin Clark was seen playing with the daughter of her Fever teammate Katie Lou Samuelson.
Check out the moment below:
This wasn’t the first touching moment featuring Samuelson and her daughter, Aliyah. During this year’s media day, the Fever forward posed for photos with her daughter.
Samuelson had taken a year off from the WNBA after giving birth to Aliyah in August 2023. She missed the entire 2023 season, which turned out to be her last with the LA Sparks, her hometown team.
However, Samuelson had no regrets, as she shared before the season started.
“Becoming a mom is the best thing I've ever done in my life,” Samuelson said (via IndyStar). “Watching (Aliyah) grow and being responsible for her every single day, helping shape her into the person she will become, has been such a blessing in my life.”
Caitlin Clark scores 29 as Fever edge Mercury for 12th win
Caitlin Clark shone in her first game since recording four points and 10 assists in the WNBA All-Star Game, leading the Fever with a team-high 29 points to secure their 12th victory.
Clark was 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-11 from three-point range, adding 10 assists and five rebounds in a stellar return to action.
This marked only the fourth time Clark has scored at least 29 points. She had two 30-point games earlier in May and June and a 29-point performance against the Washington Mystics in July.
Kelsey Mitchell contributed 28 points for the Fever, while Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively, aiding the Fever’s push for a WNBA playoff spot.
For the Mercury, who had previously defeated Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky before facing the Fever, Kahleah Copper led the charge with 32 points on 6-of-17 shooting, along with eight rebounds and six assists. She also went 18-for-19 from the free-throw line.
Natasha Cloud and Diana Taurasi added 19 and 16 points, respectively, while Brittney Griner scored 10 points.
The Fever improved to a 12-15 record, while the Mercury dropped to 14-13.
