Last Wednesday, Chennedy Carter was ruled out of the Chicago Sky's matchup against the Washington Mystics after testing positive for COVID-19. Last Friday, she missed the team's final meeting with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. During her absence, Carter shared a video of herself recovering at a Chicago-area hospital.

Ahead of Chicago's scheduled matchup today against the Las Vegas Aces, Chennedy Carter is listed as questionable due to health and safety protocols, per ClutchPoints' Christopher Smith.

This season, the Sky guard leads her team in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per contest. With Carter sidelined, however, Chicago struggled offensively against the Mystics and the Fever while losing both contests.

Chennedy Carter talked about the work she put into improving her game on the court

During an interview with Chicago Tribune's Shakeia Taylor, Carter stated her strong mental ability helped her improve her game.

"As far as on the court," Carter said. "I just tried to work on everything that I wasn't good at: my ballhandling skills, my versatility, my quickness, my first step and my foot work. And then just my mental ability to be able to focus even when things are not going good for me."

The Sky guard has matched her production from her rookie season in 2020. Despite only being listed at five-foot-nine, she has proven to be a challenging assignment for opponents due to her quickness and accuracy.

Chennedy Carter credited her Chicago Sky coach for placing her in a role where she could thrive

In the same Chicago Tribune interview, Carter praised coach Teresa Weatherspoon for enhancing her athletic strengths and giving her the best role to showcase her skills.

"First, I have a coach [Teresa Weatherspoon] that trusts me," Carter said. "I feel like she understands my value and she understands my talent. She's a player's coach. She's been in my shoes before, and she's helping me grow. She's completely taken me under her wing."

One of the challenges for any coach is assigning roles to each player based on their capabilities and the benefits they bring to the team. Some coaches struggle to do this. However, this isn't the case for Weatherspoon.
