With college basketball season still a couple of months away, Paige Bueckers is enjoying a much-needed vacation. On Sunday, the UConn star was at the Climate Pledge Arena for the highly anticipated showdown between the Seattle Storm and Chicago Sky. Bueckers came to support former Huskies teammate and now Storm backup guard Nika Muhl.
Bueckers sat at courtside for both Storm home games to root for Muhl, who failed to see action in the said games. The fans, though, were only too happy to see the 2021 Naismith College Player of the Year show off her arm. Bueckers, the celebrity t-shirt tosser, impressed fans with the distance of her throws to fans.
Paige Bueckers likely earned more supporters following her appearance in the two Storm-Sky games. She wasn’t content with throwing t-shirts to the stands, she went the extra mile for them. Bueckers went up the stands to pose for photos with a handful of Storm diehards.
Bueckers is likely to be one of the hottest names for next year’s WNBA draft. She was projected to be a top-three pick in 2023 but decided to stay for one more year at UConn. Many are already predicting that she will eventually be the No. 1 pick.
When Paige Bueckers finally takes her talent to the WNBA, she will not be wowing them with t-shirt throws. She will try to impress them with her shooting, playmaking and defense. Basketball fans can’t wait to see her compete again against the likes of Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and pro superstars.
Fans react to Paige Bueckers’ impressive t-shirt throws
Seattle Storm fans, some likely disappointed with Nika Muhl's benching, got a treat from Paige Bueckers. She showed quarterbacking skills that only delighted the crowd inside the arena. Some who saw the clip on X, formerly Twitter, reacted:
“need a kelsey plum vs paige bueckers t-shirt toss competition cause damn paige launched that”
One fan predicted which team she will be looking to play for:
“Well now we know what team she’s is leaning towards in the draft”
Another fan is convinced about the trajectory of her stardom:
“Still in college and she's already the face of the WNBA”
A Storm supporter called for a reunion in Seattle:
“We Want the twins back together. Paige + Nika”
Fans comparing Paige Bueckers to Kelsey Plum wasn’t surprising. In 2017, when Plum was an incoming rookie for the San Antonio Stars the former No. 1 pick had a throw that became viral. It didn’t look like she needed a t-shirt cannon to launch one into the stands.
A t-shirt-throwing contest between the two is unlikely to happen but many will be thrilled to see them square off in a WNBA game.
