Sabrina Ionescu’s championship drought has finally come to an end and the New York Liberty star celebrated her first title in style. During the championship parade, the Liberty star hit the famous Steph Curry’s “night night” celebration.
As Ionescu and the entire Liberty team made their way through Manhattan's Financial District, a video posted on X captured their excitement as they arrived at Broadway Street.
The 2024 WNBA champion sported a Liberty team jacket paired with black trousers, waving to fans from the parade van. At one point, the three-time All-Star made the "night night" celebration gesture towards the cheering crowd.
The parade kicked off at 10 AM, and the Liberty team will also take part in a celebration at City Hall Plaza once the parade comes to an end.
This marks the first-ever title for Sabrina Ionescu and also the New York Liberty, who won their first title in 28 years.
Sabrina Ionescu reveals the only NBA player she contacted after winning her first title
Sabrina Ionescu had a tough WNBA Finals outing against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the Liberty star always found a way to help her team as they chased their first WNBA title. While she found herself in a tough spot, she found support from Steph Curry.
In her interview with Complex Sports, the Liberty star said that she did not respond to anyone outside her family except the Golden State Warriors star. Ionescu said that amidst the celebratory noise at the Barclays Center, she celebrated her win with the four-time NBA champion.
"The only person that I really responded to last night besides my family was Steph," she said. "I was able to call him, FaceTime him for like five seconds. I could barely hear him. It was loud, but we just started screaming and celebrating together and that one means a lot to me."
Ionescu also said that it was the Warriors superstar who supported her the entire season.
"Because of his mentorship and knowing he's been here and he's been rooting for me this entire season. So, that's kind of the only person that I responded right away."
In 11 playoff games, Sabrina Ionescu averaged 16.9 points per game, shooting 39.6% from the field and 36.3% from the 3-point line. She also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. In five Finals games, she totaled just 62 points while shooting just 32.3% from the field.
