Courtney Williams and the Minnesota Lynx became the Commissioner's Cup champions bagging the grand prize of $500,000 with their 94-89 victory over the New York Liberty.

In a video posted online, Williams can be seen raising her hands and rubbing her fingers together to make a money sign. In her celebration, she was referencing the $500,000 cash prize that her team won.

The Commissioner's Cup was first introduced in the league in 2021 and has since become a fine addition to the league's regular-season games, adding a bit more flair and attraction to otherwise stale regular-season games. Previously, the Commissioner's Cup games used to be the first home and first road games for each team. It was aimed to keep alive the rivalry between the Eastern-Western conferences, which was reserved for the playoffs.

However, since 2024, the rules of the tournament have changed. Now, the Cup games are a series of home and road games that a team plays against their five conference rivals. The team to win the Commissioner's Cup is awarded a $500,000 prize that is divided among the teammates, with each player getting around $30,000 and the MVP of the tournament getting an extra $5,000.

The Commissioner's Cup was the inspiration behind the In-Season tournament introduced by the NBA in the 2023-24 season. LeBron James' Los Angeles Lakers were the team to win the tournament and become the inaugural champions of the tournament.
