Physical altercations are bound to happen in professional basketball as Connecticut Sun's DeWanna Bonner came to the defense of her teammate, Alyssa Thomas. With 3:41 to go in the third quarter of Connecticut's 86-82 win over the Chicago Sky, Thomas fouled Chicago Sky's Angel Reese hard when fighting for a rebound. The foul assessed resulted in Thomas' ejection.
After a missed layup attempt by Chicago, Reese soared high to secure the offensive rebound when Thomas's hand made contact with the rookie's neck. The force led to a hard fall from the Sky forward. The officials ruled the foul as a flagrant 2.
DeWanna Bonner tried to clear the air on X about any malicious intent from her teammate. She was not fond of her team being painted as the type of ball club that endorses that behavior.
"Yall.. I can take the heat all day," Bonner tweeted, "because I'm totally locked in on our season. However implying that domestic violence is going on in what we have, not going to happen. AT ALL! Be mad, upset, angry at the play.. But we are not those people..it's not cool. That's WAY too far."
Angel Reese finished the game, logging 33 minutes. Alyssa Thomas has not issued any response about the altercation that occurred.

Before DeWanna Bonner's response on X, Angel Reese was unfazed by what happened, according to The Shade Room's Carmen Jones.
"It's not just because I'm a rookie," Reese said. "I'm a player. And I'm a basketball player. They don't give a damn if I'm a rookie. ... I want them to come at me every day. They're not supposed to be nice to me. I hope y'all know that. They're not supposed to be nice to me or lay down because I'm Angel Reese or because I'm a rookie."
For the likes of DeWanna Bonner's teammate playing tough against Reese, it was an indication that nothing is going to come easy in the WNBA.
Aside from all the intricacies of the sport, basketball also involves some physicality that tests the determination of an athlete to win. When it comes to Angel Reese, she expects nothing less from other teams.
