Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx became the Commissioner's Cup champions on Wednesday, beating the New York Liberty with a final score of 94-89. The Lynx delivered a great performance, keeping up with last season's WNBA championship runner-ups and striking them in their weak point when they saw an opportunity.
After the game, a reporter talked with Colliers and placed the topic of the Lynx not getting enough hype despite a great start to the season and what the Lynx forward would like the world to make of this Commisoner's Cup win. Collier had a simple response to the reporter's query.
"We're here! I mean what else there is to say," Collier said.
Napheesa Collier scored 21 points, collected six rebounds, dished out six assists, and made three successful steals, delivering a solid all-rounder performance for the night. She went 6 of 13 from the field and an incredible 3 of 3 from the three-point line. She was the second leading scorer for her team on Wednesday night, trailing behind Bridget Carleton, who scored 23 points.
The Minnesota Lynx are one of the strongest teams in the league this season. They have a 13-3 record and are 2-0 against the New York Liberty, who are considered a super team in the league.
Napheesa Collier will make her second trip to the Olympics
Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier was named to the USA Women's Basketball team that will compete in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. It will be the second time the Lynx star will participate in the Olympics representing her nation. In her last appearance at the prestigious international tournament in 2021, Collier was the youngest player on the squad that grabbed the gold medal for the nation.
She was a newbie in a room full of experienced veterans, however, the situation's different now as the 27-year-old forward is an experienced veteran.
Collier is having probably the best season of her career this year, as she is leading the Minnesota Lynx with the best record in the Western Conference and the third-best record in the entire league. Collier is averaging 20.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, having an MVP-level season.
If the Lynx star can keep up this level of performance and manage to stay healthy, it will be no surprise if she wins the MVP award and even the WNBA Championship.
