Angel Reese and Chicago Sky handed 85-65 loss in first game back after WNBA Olympic break

On Thursday, the WNBA season resumed with a highly-anticipated matchup between Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, and the Phoenix Mercury. After Reese and the WNBA All-Stars handed Team USA a 117-109 loss at the WNBA's All-Star weekend in Phoenix, the league went on a month-long break for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

There, Mercury stars Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner and Kahleah Copper captured Olympic gold for Team USA. The trio then kept the momentum rolling against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Thursday, with Copper and Griner combining for 52 points.

On the flip side, Angel Reese logged another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, setting a franchise record for most offensive rebounds in a season. Currently, the Sky are in eighth place, putting them on the brink of postseason contention, while the Mercury sit in sixth place with a 14-12 record. After Thursday's loss, Reese will be back in action on Saturday when she and the Sky compete against the LA Sparks, who are currently sitting in 10th place.
