Connecticut star DiJonai Carrington revealed her phone's lock screen image featuring her girlfriend and Indiana Fever star NaLyssa Smith. The couple was back together in July after seemingly breaking up sometime last year. They first got into a relationship during their time at Baylor.
Carrington was asked what her current lock screen is in a video uploaded by the Sun on social media. She showed an image of herself and Smith together somewhere, like in a well-lit room.
"My lock screen is this. It's a picture of me and NaLyssa. I mean, what else do you wanna see?" Carrington said.
DiJonai Carrington is putting career highs across the board. She is averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game in her first year as a full-time starter. She's likely one of the candidates for the WNBA Most Improved Player award this year.
DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith's relationship timeline
According to BroBible, rumors began to swirl that DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith were dating back in 2020 when they were at Baylor. They became official after the university confirmed their relationship.
It continued on despite Carrington departing college after being selected in the second round of the 2021 WNBA draft. The couple made it work, with Smith following her to the league in 2022, when she was selected second overall by the Indiana Fever.
Carrington and Smith broke up sometime last year, possibly after the season since they were still together around August. They appeared as a couple in an episode of "Off The Top" with Ari Chambers, wherein they discussed their relationship and fashion.
They reportedly unfollowed each other after their breakup, although things heated up on the court this season when the Fever and Sun battled it out. The couple confirmed that they got back together in July and have been together ever since.
DiJonai Carrington explains their viral on-court moment earlier this season
DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith went live on Instagram in July and one of the topics that came up was their viral on-court moment a month earlier. Carrington explained what happened and how the sparks were flying after the play.
"She ran straight through me. Dawg, she held on for like at least 10 seconds, it felt like. ... She swears she didn’'t do it on purpose," Carrington said.
"She was like, 'I was just making sure you didn't fall.' Bro, the way that she wrapped them arms around, she damn near interlocked at the front."
The couple seem to be alright despite some hostility between Carrington and Smith's teammate Caitlin Clark. Carrington openly mocked Clark's flopping on the court earlier.
