What happened to Cameron Brink? Looking at Sparks rookie exiting mid-game vs Sun

Los Angeles Sparks v Seattle Storm
What happened to Cameron Brink?

The L.A. Sparks announced on Wednesday that their rookie and No. 2 draft pick, Cameron Brink, has suffered a torn left ACL. This injury is devastating as it not only sidelines her for the remainder of the WNBA season but also ends her hopes of competing in the Olympic Games in Paris, where she was set to represent the USA in 3x3 Women's Basketball.

Cameron Brink of the LA Sparks has exited their game against the Connecticut Sun. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft was helped off the court by members of the team's coaching staff after suffering a leg injury mid-game.

With 6:23 left in the first quarter, Brink got a pass at half-court. The young forward attempted to drive to the basket but bumped into Brionna Jones and fell to the floor. She suffered an injury and needed assistance to get up. After she finally got off the floor, Brink hobbled toward the Sparks bench.

She continued to struggle walking after suffering an apparent leg injury. She needed assistance from team staff heading to the locker room as she left the game.

Brink didn't score any points, rebounds, or assists in four minutes with the Sparks. The game was just starting with the Sun having an early 9-5 advantage over LA.

Brink has been one of the best players on the Sparks this season and potentially losing her for a long time will be painful for a team that's already struggling with the competition.

Cameron Brink is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate this season

Cameron Brink has played at a high level this season, although her team isn't the most competitive in the WNBA. The forward has become a shot-blocking machine, averaging 2.5 per game. She's also averaging 1.1 steals per game.

With those stats, Brink has become a candidate to take the Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award home this season. Hopefully, this injury doesn't rule out for this race.

Cameron Brink has played 14 games this season with the LA Sparks, averaging 23.3 minutes with 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She has become a sensation off the court as well, with fans praising her pre-game outfits.

The LA Sparks have a young and intriguing squad with Brink, Dearica Hamby and more, but losing the former Stanford standout would be a huge blow for this squad.
