The Connecticut Sun have been playing without Tiffany Mitchell since mid-July. At the time, there wasn't a lot of information regarding her absence and fans only knew she was dealing with an illness.

On Monday, questions were answered about why she hasn't played in over two months via an Instagram post from Mitchell herself. The veteran guard, who is also celebrating her birthday, shared that she had to overcome sepsis while dealing with six abdominal abscesses.

Tiffany Mitchell is a nine-year WNBA veteran who was drafted ninth overall in 2016 by the Indiana Fever, where she spent the first eight seasons of her career. Before the start of the 2024 season, she was traded to the Connecticut Sun.

For her career, she is averaging 8.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Mitchell played in all 24 of the Sun's games before she was sidelined. She last played on July 16 against the New York Liberty, which was also the last game that the Sun played before the month-long Olympic break.

Mitchell averaged 4.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 16.3 minutes this season. She served as a roleplayer and came off the bench for the Sun. There is no timeline yet for her return.

Tiffany Mitchell and Stephanie White were reunited with the Connecticut Sun this season

Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White was also the Indiana Fever's coach in 2015 and 2016. When Tiffany Mitchell was drafted, White was her first coach as a pro.

She was excited when the Fever drafted Mitchell as she was a player on their radar.

In an interview in 2016, White commended Mitchell's physicality and mental toughness. She also praised her defensive skills as well as her deep range and said that she already had a WNBA-ready body.

In her rookie season, Mitchell averaged 8.6 points per game in White's system. However, White stepped down as the Fever's coach at the end of the 2016 season and took the job at Vanderbilt.

White returned to the WNBA in 2023 and after one season, she was reunited with Tiffany Mitchell.

On Sept. 7, it was reported that coach White got "choked up" when she talked about Mitchell, who showed up to support the team in a regular season game despite her illness.
