The WNBA season is back in full swing after a four-week break, and the race to the playoffs grows more and more intriguing with each passing day. On Sunday, two teams that face off have very different ambitions. Hosts Las Vegas Aces will be aiming to find a consistent run of form to retain their WNBA league title. Meanwhile visitors Los Angeles Sparks will be aiming to halt its stuttering form, in what has been a season to forget at the bottom of the table.
The Sparks go into the game off the back of three successive league defeats, with the one on Saturday being particularly disappointing. The 86-90 loss at home against fellow strugglers Chicago involved a complete collapse in the final quarter, leaving the LA outfit in 10th place, with a 6-20 record for the season and just 2-10 since rookie Cameron Brink tore her ACL.
Curt Miller's troops will need to massively improve if they are to get anything from the reigning champion who have an 8-6 record at home this season.
Meanwhile Becky Hammon’s team has hit a roadblock after a surprising loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday, in what has otherwise been a very smooth and successful season. With a 16-9 record, the Aces picked up eight road wins from 11 on offer before their trip to New York but had a major off day, resulting in a 79-67 loss.
Hammon knows her team has the quality to deliver but will be expecting to get back to winning ways.
