Angel Reese recently shared that she'll help the Chicago Sky recruit players in free agency, even calling herself a "good GM." However, a fan lambasted her for her comments and even pointed out players who allegedly do not want to play with the Sky star.
In a post on X a fan with the username @naeology8 took a shot at Reese for her comments about recruiting players. She mentioned former Sky players Marina Mabrey and Gabby Williams as those who didn't want to play with the 22-year-old LSU product.
"Saying players are wanting to play with you and Mabrey left and Gabby Williams declined… who are you trying to impress?" the fan posted on X.
The fan was alluding to Angel Reese's comments about being a "good GM" and how she'll be helping general manager Jeff Pagliocca and Teresa Weatherspoon in free agency. The Chicago Sky have some cap space to play with, although there's not a big free agency class this offseason.
As for the assumptions about Marina Mabrey and Gabby Williams, they didn't specifically say that they didn't want to play with Reese.
Mabrey, who was traded to the Connecticut Sun midseason, told the Chicago Sun-Times that she wanted to play for a contender but was quiet about the rumored trade request.
On the other hand, Gabby Williams didn't choose the Sky after the Olympics because of Reese.
Williams even admitted that she wanted to play with the LSU product but not with the franchise. The French-American star played in Chicago from 2018 to 2021.
@naeology8 is also an Indiana Fever fan, so it's another example of toxicity among the fanbases of Reese and Caitlin Clark. It's something that the WNBA will need to address next season since it's one of the negative things brought upon by the presence of both rookie stars.
Who can Angel Reese recruit in free agency?
According to Bleacher Report, the Chicago Sky will have the second-biggest cap space for the upcoming WNBA free agency. The Sky can go after a bunch of players and Angel Reese can use her 'GM skills' to try recruiting some of the best free agents on the market.
Depending on the results of the 2024 WNBA playoffs, several big names are expected to enter free agency.
Some of the top players who could be unrestricted free agents are Breanna Stewart of the Chicago Sky, Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun, Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury and Nneka Ogwumike of the Seattle Storm.
Other players who could be an upgrade for the Sky's roster include Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever, Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces, Brionna Jones of the Sun, Brittney Griner of the Mercury and Satou Sabally of the Dallas Wings.
Some veterans like Tina Charles, Erica Wheeler, DeWanna Bonner, Courtney Vandersloot and Alysha Clark are also likely entering free agency, as per Spotrac.
