WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes' comments (and lack thereof) about Caitlin Clark have seemingly affected her job within the league.
Days after fans called her out for defending Chicago Sky guard Diamond DeShields, Swoopes was nowhere to be seen in the Fever vs Wings broadcast. Michael Gallagher of Athlon Sports said that Swoopes' attitude toward Clark might have led the W to remove her from Sunday's broadcast team.
Of course, this might only be speculation, but knowing how she's talked (or not) about Clark and the constant praise she heaps for her teammates while ignoring her, could make one wonder if this isn't all connected.
Swoopes was expected to be an analyst for today's game, but the Houston Comets icon confirmed earlier today that she wouldn't be working in the Fever-Wings duel.
"Not today Satan," Swoopes replied to a fan saying they 'couldn't wait' for her announcement.
This came after Swoopes refused to acknowledge Clark as an important part of the Indiana Fever's season turnaround, which raised a lot of eyebrows around the league. So much so that veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith called her 'insane' for her stance on Clark's performances.
Swoopes hasn't changed her mind and even after the No. 1 overall pick broke the record for 3-pointers made by a rookie, she was silent for almost an entire minute; creating an awkward moment during the Fever vs Sun broadcast.
Sheryl Swoopes defended Diamond DeShields after hard foul on Caitlin Clark
Sheryl Swoopes was on the receiving end of criticism after siding with Diamond DeShields following a controversial play between the Chicago Sky guard and Caitlin Clark. The former player took to social media to lift DeShields after she got a flagrant foul and big backlash for taking down Clark on Friday night.
"@Diamonddoesit1 head up kid! Hate will not win!! You are covered and ain't nothing these evil people can do about that. All love for you!❤️," Swoopes tweeted.
This tweet rubbed a lot of people off the wrong way, but Swoopes defended against those who attacked her.
