It appears WNBA star Breanna Stewart chose to watch the NFL over the NBA on Christmas Day. With Beyonce's performance at the halftime show and hope for a great football game on Netflix, it's not hard to wonder why the New York Liberty star would choose the NFL over the NBA.
The three-time WNBA champion made a post on social media while streaming the Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans on Netflix, which kicked off at 4:30 p.m. ET. It was around the same time the Boston Celtics played the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden which kicked off just 30 minutes later, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Stewart shared her experience of watching football on Netflix.
"Honestly NFL on Netflix is kinda 🔥," she wrote in the caption.
The NFL vs NBA Christmas Game was one of the biggest talking points in sports. While the Christmas games have been largely dominated by the NBA, in the last two seasons, the NFL has tried to take away its thunder.
Even LeBron James called out the NFL for trying to steal the attention away from the NBA on Christmas.
"“I love the NFL but Christmas is our day," James said.
As for Breanna Stewart, the Liberty star has her own schedule filled from mid-January. Stewart and the Mist will play against Napheesa Collier and the Lunar Owls on January 17.
Breanna Stewart's big claim before inaugural Unrivaled season
Breanna Stewart has sent an early warning for her opponents ahead of the inaugural "Unrivaled" league starting its season in January. The Liberty star appeared in a detour video by Unrivaled Basketball on YouTube.
The video gave a sneak peek into the area where the league would organize games. It also showed an open arena Stewart described as an area dedicated to players hanging out before the game. The clip switched to an enclosed big space dedicated to practice and games. Stewie claimed she would average 40 points.
"And in this soundstage, we'll have a practice court, a weight room, and obviously the main court where I'll be averaging 40 points per game." [1:50]
The three-time WNBA champion has every arsenal in her bag to toy against defenders. She has never averaged less than 18.0 points in her career.
In her last six seasons, Breanna Stewart has finished top three in the MVP voting (including two wins). Last season, the Liberty star averaged 20.4 points on 45.8% shooting from the field. She also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
