Caitlin Clark declined the invitation to participate in Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier's Unrivaled League, which will debut next year. After nearly a year of intense basketball, the Indiana Fever star has decided she wants to rest as much as possible and focus on other activities.
WNBA fans started speculating about the reason behind this decision, with some saying that Stewart's past comments had something to do with Clark's call.
"Stewie pissed that she has to pay these players $200,000 each without the CC stimulus , they’re panicking 😭😭😭," one fan said.
"I'd be surprised if they actually wanted CC in it to begin with. Stewie definitely never showed her any kind of support or even acknowledgement, really," another fan said.
"She should have never disrespect CC it was stupid life is funny like that you never know who you are going to need help from 🤷♂️ Phee & CC are good but Stewie & Geno F it up for her. I hope she comes to the Fever in ‘26 because her CC would dominate the league like MJ & Scottie," another fan wrote.
Some mocked Angel Reese and said that fans would tune in to watch her; others questioned why Clark would participate after not only Stewart but other players "hated" her during her rookie season.
What did Breanna Stewart say about Caitlin Clark?
Stewart was one of three players who downplayed Clark's college achievements, saying that she needed to win a championship since people wouldn't remember the other stuff she did on the court.
"Yeah, she does. I think so. You are going to look 10 years back and you are going to see all the records that she has broken, points and stuff like that, but anybody knows your goal when you play college basketball is to win a national championship. So you need one," Stewart said in April.
Once Clark made it to the league, the two-time WNBA champion said that players didn't hate the guard and that she was happy for her.
"Oh, my gosh, no way!" Stewart said when asked if WNBA players hated Caitlin Clark. "I'm happy for her to be in this league, obviously. I'm happy that she's brought a whole bunch of new eyes along with Angel Reese, and continuing to bring those fans."
Then again, as some fans noted, she was silent when A'ja Wilson and others accused Clark of white privilege. She would've been a terrific attraction for a lot of fans, but Clark is focused on playing golf this offseason.
