WNBA fans call out Phoenix Mercury announcer Cindy Brunson for alleged anti-Caitlin Clark bias: "This is disturbing"

Caitlin Clark has run into her fair share of critics this season. After an old social media post resurfaced online, fans have called out one of her detractors for purported hypocrisy.

The post showed Phoenix Mercury announcer Cindy Brunson reacting to the appearance of an Iowa women's basketball player with two laughing emojis. This resulted in fans coming after her after she stated that Clark and the Indiana Fever needed to do more to protect women in the WNBA.

Fans poured into the comment section and accused her of interacting with this post in a toxic manner.

"comeeeee onnnnnnn @CindyBrunsonAZ," One fan said.

"Wonder if she’ll demand the Mercury front office to comment and condemn her bullying a a college athlete lol," another fan said.

"@CindyBrunsonAZ you’re a boldfaced hypocrite," said another.

This whole issue stems from comments Brunson made regarding Clark in Twitter Spaces earlier this year. She said Clark and the Fever need to do more to look out for women of color and the LQBTQI+ community.

"Let's press the Indiana organization," Brunson said. "If Caitlin isn't going to do the right thing, I think general manager Lin Dunn, head coach Stephanie White, other folks in that organization need to push back on the vitriol aimed particularly at black women and LGBTQI+ women."

While some have tried to diminish Caitlin Clark, there are people in the WNBA community who have applauded her for her work. One former All-Star broke down just how impressive she's been in her rookie campaign.

On an episode of ESPN's "NBA Today," Chiney Ogwumike broke down Clark and the Fever's stellar play of late. She also cited an impressive stat that the rookie phenom is on pace to achieve.

"Make no mistake, Caitlin Clark is doing things beyond her years," Ogwumike said. "She's on pace to generate the most points in a season in WNBA history."

Along with leading the league in assists per game at 8.4, Clark is averaging just shy of 19 points a night. Earlier this week, she notched her second triple-double of the season against the LA Sparks. Following some early troubles to start her debut pro campaign, the No. 1 pick has found her stride.

Behind this impressive play from Clark, the Fever have managed to stockpile wins. Since the schedule resumed following the Olympics, Indiana is 7-1. Thanks to their stellar run, Clark and her teammates sit in sixth place in the standings and have clinched a postseason berth.
