After the Seattle Storm were the subject of a WNBA investigation for allegedly mistreating players, Jewell Loyd requested a trade. After the news went public, WNBA reporter Roberta Rodrigues reported on the team, covering the issues within the Storm.
Since then, her account on X, formerly known as Twitter, has been targeted. On Monday, Rodrigues made a series of posts highlighting the situation, showing examples of authentication codes she's received as people try to access her account.
In addition, she also shared a screenshot of a sign-in attempt from Clifton, New Jersey, that she said is from someone, or multiple people, trying to access her account.
As she wrote, in the past, something similar happened with her Instagram, and eventually, the hackers were able to bypass the security measures and gain control over her account, posting explicit content for her followers.
"Since November 22 I have experienced several attempts of someone trying to hack into my Twitter account. A few days ago, it was my Apple ID. I’ve been taking all proper measures to secure my stuff, but that is annoying."
She then followed it up with another point, calling attention to the timing of the login attempts, after she reported on the issues the WNBA's Seattle Storm are dealing with:
"It started right after my series reporting the issues within the Seattle Storm, which got a lot of attention. I think someone who hacks accounts to sell them was trying to take advantage of that momentum to sell mine. Pls send tips on how to keep my stuff extra safe."
Looking at the issues WNBA reporter Roberta Rodrigues was reporting on regarding the Seattle Storm
The Seattle Storm might have finished the 2024 WNBA season in fifth place, up from 11th the previous year. However, the story surrounding the team this offseason hasn't been about the franchise's growth.
Instead, the team has been investigating workplace policy violations, raised by Jewell Loyd. The two-time WNBA champion reportedly filed a complaint alleging that the Storm's coaching staff was mistreating players.
After an investigation, a law firm hired by the team concluded that there was no wrongdoing on the part of the franchise, and there was harassment or bullying policies.
After the results of the investigation were made public, Jewell Loyd requested a trade.
Between the reports of discontent within the franchise and the news of Loyd requesting a trade, Roberta Rodrigues seems to have landed on the radar of folks aiming to take down her coverage on social media.
