The race for the 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player of the Year award has had multiple participants. Several players have improved their level, trying to lead their teams to victories. However, only a handful are enjoying individual and collective success.
The MVP race is getting hotter, and the DPOY is also getting more interesting. Here's a look at the players who are having seasons worthy of MIPOY award consideration.
Top 5 WNBA MIPOY Candidates After Week 6
#5, Alanna Smith, Minnesota Lynx
Alanna Smith and the Minnesota Lynx (13-3) have maintained their good momentum in the 2024 WNBA season. They are fighting to become the league's best team, and Smith has played a key role. In 28.2 minutes per game this season, Smith is averaging 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. She's shooting 51.1%, including 45.5% from deep.
#4, Ezi Magbegor, Seattle Storm
Ezi Magbegor has improved her level season after season. The Seattle Storm forward/center is averaging 13.3 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 2.5 apg. She's also posting a league-leading 2.5 blocks and 1.6 steals per game. Magbegor shoots 48.4% from the field and 91.1% from the free-throw line.
#3, Maddy Siegrist, Dallas Wings
Amid a terrible 3-13 season, Maddy Siegrist has become the only thing the Dallas Wings have to boast about. The 24-year-old sophomore made it to this list a couple of weeks ago, and she hasn't stopped improving her game. In 13 games this season, Siegrist averages 14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 1.2 apg, shooting 52.3% from the field and 79.2% from the free-throw line.
#2, Dearica Hamby, LA Sparks
Dearica Hamby's numbers have decreased since she posted almost 30 points per game in the first weeks of the WNBA season. The LA Sparks forward is expected to improve those numbers after Cameron Brink went down with an ACL injury. In 17 games, Hamby averages 17.8 ppg, 10.5 rpg and 3.5 apg. She also shoots for 50.9%, including 40.0% from beyond the arc.
#1, Kahleah Cooper, Phoenix Mercury
Despite the Seattle Storm of Ezi Magbegor and Minnesota Lynx of Alanna Smith having a better record than the Phoenix Mercury, Kahleah Cooper keeps leading this ranking for another week. The player has performed at the best level this season, averaging 22.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 2.4 apg, shooting 43.3% from the floor and 80.2% from the free-throw line.
