ESPN's First Take host Molly Qerim was on the receiving end of backlash on social media for backpedalling on her previous takes on Caitlin Clark's talent.
In a now viral video post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, it was highlighted how Qerim's justification of Clark's non-inclusion in Team USA for the Paris Olympic Games did not age well. The Indiana Fever rookie sensation has continuously disproved the host with her steady solid play
From her take of making a "mockery of the women's game" if Clark was included in the U.S. squad on her popularity alone and she was "not as talented' as the others in the team, Qerim sang a different tune recently, saying:
"No one denied the fact that she's a star and she couldn't play."
Check out what she had to say below:
WNBA fans let Qerim have it for her "about-face" on her take on Caitlin Clark, taking to X to express their sentiments. Below are what some of them wrote on the social media platform.
One fan simply would have none of the First Take host's actions, saying:
"Molly legit is corny ... She barely says anything relevant."
"Another fan viewed the 'reversal' along a similar line, saying, "Molly is an embarrasment to women who actually appreciate and understand sports especially basketball. Own up to the fact that you were wrong. Be humble -- and stop hating on young athletes! The jealousy is unbecoming Molly!"
"Still one from another user said, ' It's funny when they get amnesia like that and just can't remember their takes from a month ago.'"
Some comments, meanwhile, highlighted how good Caitlin Clark has been in direct contrast to how Qerim views her talent.
"@MollyQerim they came with the receipts! You gotta stand on that!" one fan highlighted.
"Caitlin is the best .. No one can stop her .. 3 points all day long. Love this .. GET ON BOARD .. Its going to be wild ride," another one wrote.
One fan, for his part, said he felt for Caitlin Clark, saying, "I'm happy she's living up to the hype. It just sad all the women who hated on her instead of embracing her."
"The apology should be as loud as the disrespect," a user, meanwhile, urged Qerim
In the ongoing in the WNBA season, Caitlin Clark has been a steady moving piece for the Fever, averaging 18.9 points, 8.4 assists (league-high), 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 34 games so far. Her arrival has been a boon to Indiana, playoff-bound for the first time since 2016.
Caitlin Clark undeterred by Olympic snub
After Clark did not make the squad for the Olympics, she spoke about using the setback as motivation for the next iteration of the Games.
Clark said (via CBS News):
"I think it just gives you something to work for. It's a dream. Hopefully one day I can be there. I think it's just a little more motivation. You remember that. Hopefully, when four years comes back, I can be there."
While she missed out on Paris, Caitlin Clark is being unanimously touted by experts to be a part of the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
