Colin Cowherd has been one of the most notable advocates for Caitlin Clark to make the Olympic team this year. USA Basketball already announced the 12-player roster that will compete in Paris in the upcoming Olympic Games.
Despite drawing a lot of attention to the WNBA, Clark wasn't selected to represent the country with Team USA. Cowherd had recently called out the organization for this decision and explained how well Clark was playing at the highest levels.
In today's edition of The Herd, the analyst didn't mince words and said that the young guard is more than ready to play on the biggest stages.
"'Caitlin Clark is not quite ready, let's not get ahead of ourselves,'" Cowherd said, seemingly mocking the people who remain skeptical about the rookie. "And the more I watch Caitlin Clark, the more I'm convinced women's basketball isn't ready.
"Caitlin Clark is more than ready. She helped her WNBA All-Star team beat the USA women's Olympic team this weekend. She was the best playmaker. She had 10 assists. Best playmaker."
He added:
"One of her teammates scored 34 [Arike Ogunbowale] and Caitlin just kept feeding her the ball, and [she had] the most assists in the win, double digits assists in seven of her last eight games, despite the WNBA butchering her early schedule, snubbing her for the Olympics.
"They put her on the WNBA All-Star Team, Indiana now is a real potential playoff team. And what do you know? She led everybody in assists as they beat the Olympic team."
Caitlin Clark put on a show against the Olympic team
While Arike Ogunbowale stole the spotlight with her 34 points, it's hard to ignore that Clark dished 10 assists during this match. She had a quiet night in terms of scoring, recording only four points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field. She was a starter for this game and played 26:04 minutes.
Seeing that it wasn't her night from the field, Clark was in charge of assisting Ogunbowale, finishing the night with a game-high 10 assists and only two turnovers. This is major for Clark, who has struggled to protect the ball to start her WNBA career.
Many believe that USA Basketball made a big mistake by not including Clark on this year's Olympic roster, especially Cowherd.
