Before yesterday's WNBA All-Star Game tip-off, DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas had an adorable moment together. Sun guard Dijonai Carrington reacted to that on Instagram. The two Connecticut teammates were engaged in last year's All-Star Weekend. Despite being opponents in yesterday's contest, they shared some time before the game.
The two forwards have been teammates since 2020 when Bonner was acquired by the Sun from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for three first-round picks. As Bonner represented the league's All-Star Team, Thomas donned a USA Basketball jersey.
As Dijoinai Carrington was teammates with the two Connecticut forwards, she couldn't help but react to the team's Instagram post.
"Oh ya'll flirting!" Carrington posted.
In the video, Bonner approached Thomas, sitting comfortably on the bench. The Sun forward recorded Alyssa Thomas slowly approaching her, and the two eventually hugged each other.
Dijonai Carrington talked about how the Connecticut Sun are playing with a chip on their shoulders
Certain teams in the WNBA have established their identity and dominance over their opponents. One of those squads is the Connecticut Sun. Their tough-nosed brand of basketball, which is not for everyone, has catapulted them into second place (18-6 record) in the Western Conference standings.
In an interview with CBS Sports' Erica Ayala, Dijonai Carrington highlighted the team's unshakeable mindset in who they are as a unit and how they go about every matchup.
"We're just trying to make a statement in that aspect," Carrington posted, "that there's different ways to win every night, and we're going to figure that out. But it doesn't matter what the media says. It doesn't matter because what the fans say because our game is going to speak for itself. And at the end of the season, hopefully, we're cutting those nets ..."
Carrington and her Sun teammates pride themselves on being more than capable of winning several games through various styles.
Across the league, they rank second defensively (93.8) and third offensively (102.5), meeting the right balance between both ends of the court.
Regardless of how the media perceives them, Carrington pointed out how their coverage was never a focus for them this season. Instead, they continue to handle their business against any team that comes their way.
